Companies that employ fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees are not required to provide medical coverage. Companies with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees are required to provide “affordable” and “minimum value” medical benefits and will face penalties for not offering that coverage to all benefits-eligible employees.
